Nexus Internetworking Services was founded in 1998 by a group of technology consultants as a means to offer our services on the Internet and as a platform to implement and showcase solutions for our clients. It was conceived of by one of the members, a long-time consultant who provided the needed hardware and expertise.
Although the service is new, the people behind it are definitely not new to the various fields of technology it covers. Our goal is to provide the highest quality of service and level of commitment to our customers.
Below are some of the highlights of our service.
Locale - We are local to the Atlanta, GA area.
Hardware - Servers are designed and custom built by Omega Microsystems, Inc. If you have custom requirements that just cannot be met by the "standard" computer manufacturers, check them out.
OS - Servers run either Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 with the latest service packs or Linux 2.0.36 with the latest security updates.
Web/FTP - On Windows NT, either Microsoft Internet Information Server 4.0 with FrontPage extensions or Lotus Domino 4.6 is available. On Linux, Apache and ftpd is available.
Mail - On Windows NT, we use Omega's NexusMail product, a very robust mail server that supports SMTP/POP3/IMAP4 clients and servers.
eCommerce - On Windows, we use Microsoft Commerce Server or Lotus domino.Merchant.
Databases - On Windows, we use Microsoft SQL Server 6.5. On Linux, we use MySQL.
Security - All of our servers are kept behind a firewall for extra security. Though no system can ever be guaranteed to be 100% secure, we have significantly raised the bar for would-be intruders. This feature provides extra peace-of-mind, especially to our eCommerce customers.
Backups - All servers are backed up to tape on a regular basis, ensuring the least down time and minimal loss of information in case of primary storage failure on any of our servers.
Connectivity - Our network operates on a switched 100Mbit Ethernet backbone, connected to our provider through a firewall to a switched 10Mbit Ethernet and then ultimately to the Internet via multiple redundant T3s.
Support - Currently, Technical Support is available 24 hours a day via eMail and during normal business hours via telephone. In the near future, we will be increasing our telephone support to 24 hours a day, year-round.
Server-side Scripts - Nexus currently supports a library of server-side scripts for use by customers of all of our service plans. We also provide http-server-based scripting, such as ASP and PHP3 pages. For customers of our Site Hosting plan, we provide limited support for non-http-server scripting in the form of Perl. Directly-execuatable CGI programs are not supported at this time. Dedicated and Co-located server customers have full control over their choices of server-side scripting applications.
Virtually Unlimited Bandwidth - We provide our customers with what we call Virtually Unlimited Bandwidth. For the vast majority of our customers, this means that they will never see a bandwidth charge. However, since customers of both the User Pages and Hosted Sites Service Plans share physical server hardware and software, Nexus reserves the right to define limits and/or regulate bandwidth for particularly busy sites and, if necessary, require that a particular site's Service Plan be upgraded to include the extra bandwidth / server load costs or changed to a Dedicated plan. In the vast majority of cases, this will not be an issue, but we want to ensure that all of our customers receive the best possible service at a fair price. |
